Malaspina Choir is an 80-member community choir located in Nanaimo. Its purpose is to entertain and educate the public about classical choral music. Founded in 1970, the choir brings together musicians and music lovers of all ages and from all walks of life.
Malaspina Choir is embedded in the civic and ceremonial life of Nanaimo. It participated in the opening of the Malaspina University College Campus, performed for the Queen and Prince Philip, presented the City of Nanaimo with the official Nanaimo Song for its 125th birthday, and this year performed at the opening ceremonies of the BC Seniors Games. Concerts, co-sponsored with the Victoria Chamber Orchestra and the Victoria Civic Orchestra, have been presented in Victoria as well as Nanaimo. In 2006, the choir sang Handel’s Messiah with the Vancouver Island Symphony. The Symphony will join Malaspina Choir this spring for a concert at the Port Theatre, featuring Bruckner’s Mass in D Minor.
Wade Noble, who holds a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Victoria, has conducted Malaspina Choir since September 2002. Hiromi Bradshaw joined the choir as accompanist in 2008. |
