Island Bel Canto Singers is an auditioned women’s community choir founded in 1997. Under the direction of Lionel Tanod and with accompanist, Sharon Sinclair, the choir sings a diverse repertoire of classical, folk, pop, jazz and world music. The choir’s goal is to create beautiful music in a relaxed and inspiring environment.

In addition to producing annual Christmas and Spring concerts, Island Bel Canto Singers performs at several community events throughout the year. The choir is committed to providing performance opportunities for aspiring young musicians and to networking with other choirs as a means of enriching and extending the choral tradition in Nanaimo and surrounding area. Island Bel Canto Singers' Christmas concert will be held Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 7:30 pm at the Nanaimo Ecumenical Centre, 6234 Spartan Road.

Regular rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings, as well as choral workshops each term which focus on vocal production and repertoire development.
