Heart of the Island Chorus is a proud member of Sweet Adelines International, a worldwide sisterhood of singers using four-part harmony to create beautiful unaccompanied music. The Chorus is entering its 36th year in Nanaimo, a longevity made possible through dedicated members and talented directors.
The Heart of the Island repertoire includes many audience favorites, including Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, “Fats” Waller’s Ain’t Misbehavin’, Wonderful World and Tuxedo Junction, to name just a few.
Almost every year, Heart of the Island Chorus participates in the Upper Island Music Festival, as well as competing in the Regional Convention where singers from Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia vie for medals. Members have fond remembrances of winning the Small Chorus trophy twice, as well as the Most Improved award. In the community, the ladies have sung at the re-enactment of the arrival of the Princess Royal Pioneers, the May 24 parades, the B.C. Summer Games, the Festival of Trees, and Canada Day celebrations in the park.
Heart of the Island Chorus rehearsals are held Wednesday evenings from 7–9:30 pm at the Frith Radcliffe Auditorium in Nanaimo. |
