Chor Musica

Chor Musica, a mixed choir from Nanaimo, was founded in 1980 by 18 enthusiastic singers, several of whom are still active in the choir. As singing together enriched the fellowship and social life of the group, membership grew and now totals 45 members. Thanks to the dedication and patience of Georgina Bonkowski, Choir Director since 1980, the choir has achieved a good measure of success.
Chor Musica sings a range of songs by composers such as Schubert, Mendelssohn, Brahms and Beethoven. The repertoire also includes sacred music and folksongs, sung mainly in German. Chor Musica sings at club functions, as a guest choir in other cities, and at various local Christmas celebrations. The group has participated in all North Pacific song festivals since 1982. A particular source of pride is the 32nd Nord Pacifische Sangerfest held in Nanaimo in 1996, with 500 singers in the mass choir.
Choir practices are held every Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm at the German Cultural Centre, 71 Caledonia Avenue, Nanaimo. No audition is required. |
