Camerata Singers

Camerata Singers

Camerata Singers is a fun and energetic community choir for men and women. The group began in 1998 with 16 members and conductor Marilyn Wuis. Today, Camerata Singers is 32 strong, led for the past nine years by the talented Marian Smith. Marian acts as teacher and conductor, and group members have grown in musical knowledge as a result of her efforts.

Camerata sings a wide variety of music, including classical, folk, spiritual and pop. Each year, they hold a Christmas concert in partnership with the Nanaimo Youth Choir; and in May their spring concert includes guest performers from the community. The music in the spring concert is based on a theme, with past concerts featuring music from the forties, the British Isles, Canadian composers, and the most recent theme, "music of the night". Several times a year Camerata sings for residents at seniors' homes.

Camerata welcomes all who love to sing and want to learn more about music. Singers are auditioned by Marian Smith, and practices are held at St. Andrew’s United Church on Wednesdays from 7-9pm, with a break during the summer months.
