The Gabriola Island Singers began as a night school course in 1976 under the direction of Aileen Adam. Alfred Kristiansen conducted for a few years, followed by Gail Lund from 1983 to the present. We are a community choir of approximately 40 voices and present concerts at Christmas and in the spring.
Musical highlights for the Gabriola Island Singers include hosting the Soweto Teachers Choir and other choirs from Africa and Europe, singing Carmina Burana with Bruce More and his Prima Youth Choir, and of course being involved in Nanaimo Sings! We also added our voices to the “Complaints Choirs of the World” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeO-K_qI2w8).
Auditions are not required and our Wednesday rehearsals provide a stress-free but challenging evening.
